Lego

This week saw protests of politicians, harsh punishments and artists being censored.

In the States we saw the Republican candidate Donald Trump interrupted by Hispanic protesters after his previous comments where he called Mexican migrants rapists and murderers.

In Iran human rights advocates are trying to prevent two Iranian poets from receiving 99 lashes each for shaking hands with members of the opposite sex.

Lastly, Chinese artist and political activist Ai Weiwei made headlines when he reported that Lego had refused to supply bulk orders of Lego bricks for an art installation he was creating. Supporters then created the hashtag #LegosForWeiwei to source Lego bricks from the public instead.

Back to the Future

We look at long anticipated news this week with Back to the Future, the release of the new Star Wars trailer and gender inequality brought into the lime light.

Back to the Future


This week saw 21 October 2015 come and go with the stars of the franchise commemorating the big day with a reunion and of course the inevitable comparisons with reality and jokes about progress.

Star Wars


The long awaited trailer for Star Wars was released this week which even impressed the actors themselves. After it's release ticket sales were opened and promptly crashed due to overwhelming fan response.

Gender Inequality


The issue of gender inequality has taken center stage of late with stars like Jennifer Lawrence releasing open letters about the issue along with Jessica Chastin addressing previous projects. There was one response which raised questions when Jeremy Renner said it wasn't his job to help negotiate while Bradley Cooper spoke out in support of Jennifer and other actresses.

Turkey Bombings


On 10 October the Turkish capital city of Ankara fell victim to two deadly suicide attacks killing nearly 100 people. Over the days that followed it was believed that the attacks had been orchestrated by ISIS and Kurdish-group the PKK.

Leaders in Europe continued to tackle the growing refugee crisis with nations looking at their various options.


VW Scandal


The VW Scandal gained more attention with various countries pushing for answers from Britain to Australia.

The fight against ISIS continued to make headlines along with the long running conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Israel & Palestine


Tension continued to rise between Israel and Palestine with prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu ordering the destruction of houses belonging to Palestinians who carried out attacks on Israel. Just days later further clashes broke out after the funeral of a boy.

ISIS


A plot to sell nuclear material to ISIS was foiled by the FBI and police in Moldova when a Russian linked gang tried to sell bomb-grade uranium and blueprints for a dirty bomb. A hospital run by Doctors Without Borders was hit by US forces killing 22 and with 33 still missing. Lastly, there has been continued destruction of Syrian artifacts by ISIS with the lucky surviving remnants being sold to fund the war.

Fashion Weeks


The Spring/Summer Fashion Week extravaganza came to an end in Paris after a whirl wind tour of New York, London and Milan before finishing in Paris.


Bill Cosby Scandal


Bill Cosby faced even more scandal this week with 3 more accusers coming forward accusing him of sexual assault and may face criminal charges.


Mass Shooting


Lastly we saw another mass shooting in the US when the gunmen identified as Chris Harper-Mercer opened fire on a community college in Oregon killing multiple people.
